Typhoon Haiyan survivors flee Tacloban misery on navy ship to Cebu

Nearly 3,000 survivors of Typhoon Haiyan disembarked from a Philippines naval ship in Cebu Friday, carrying the few possessions they could take with them. Many cradled exhausted children; a few even carried dogs. Evacuees said they were relieved to have left Tacloban City, which they described as "dangerous" and even "hopeless." They said they could not get access to food or water and feared people were ransacking homes. "We have... [read news]

Anger Takes Hold in City Ravaged by Typhoon

Wearing face masks or pulling their shirts up over their noses to mask the smell of rotting flesh, a procession of typhoon survivors three miles long walked toward the shattered airport here on Tuesday to beg for food, water or a flight out of the chaos of what used to be a city of 220,000. They witnessed the despair of survivors like Erroll de la Cruz, 34, who squatted next to the pavement to scrawl the names of his wife, Michelle, and... [read news]

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made his first foray into late-night television on Friday, facing some prodding questions from Tonight Show host Jay Leno on the government shutdown. About four minutes into the interview, Leno asked Cruz why the shutdown took place, posing the idea that if Obamacare had been allowed to go forward without shutting down the government, the early struggles with the law may have been seen in a different...
