Candy Crush maker to trademark the word 'candy'

Hey, developers: If your next game title features the word "candy," you may want to rethink it. The company behind hit mobile app Candy Crush Saga has a provisional trademark on the word, the San Jose Mercury News reports. A Florida developer is among those who have reportedly received warning letters. Benny Hsu's game title included the phrase "All Candy Casino Slots." Following a form email from Apple, Hsu has decided to change "candy"... [read news]

‘Battlefield 4’ banned in China

Not long ago we reported that the People’s Republic of China took issue with the game Battlefield 4, which depicts the Chinese as the bad guys. An editorial in the Chinese military paper Zhongguo Guofangbao claimed that the game was part of an “ongoing cultural war” intended to mislead the impressionable youths around the world, while “discrediting China’s image abroad and distorting the truth.” According to a new report from... “Candy Crush Saga” –- arguably the world’s most addictive game -- just got a massive overhaul with a new world and a whole new set of levels. Say goodbye to your social life and productivity once again. The free-to-play puzzle game is by many metrics the most successful mobile game of all time. 'Angry Birds Go' review -- the birds hit the track

The old saying “You get what you pay for” is usually fairly reliable. But it's not the case with the free game “Angry Birds Go,” for hiding under the tacky adverts and the pushing of paid content is an extremely addictive and well-developed racer. Known for puzzle games in which you hurl birds at unsuspecting green pigs, Rovio has a new title that transplants the Angry Birds onto a Mario-Kart style cartoon racer complete with... [read news]

Gran Turismo 6 first week UK sales around five times less than GT5

Gran Turismo 6 is way off the pace of its predecessor, after debuting in the UK with close to five times less sales than Gran Turismo 5. Yes, the presence of two next-gen consoles is no doubt a factor - also GT5 came out on a Wednesday, and GT6 on Friday - but it's still a concerning performance by the PS3 racer, especially considering it had this week to itself, retail-wise. To add insult to injury, it placed eighth in the UK charts this week... [read news]

'Call of Duty: Ghosts' review – a right-wing spectacular?

“Call of Duty: Ghosts," the newest version of the highly popular military first person-shooter series, is out this week -- and arguably has one of the most right-wing premises in video game history. The COD games are the video game equivalents of Michael Bay movies: loud, shouty, full of explosions, ever so slightly ridiculous, and outrageously popular in spite of the critics. “Call of Duty: Ghosts” is very much the same, which is... Review: 'Forza Motorsport 5' -- the competition eats its dust

The racing game genre is as jam-packed as I-80 in rush hour, making it difficult for games to stand out -- yet “Forza Motorsport 5” still manages to do just that. The Forza series focuses on ultra-realism for hardcore petrolheads. Although often beaten by Gran Turismo games for sales, its latest effort for the Xbox One leaves the competition eating dust in terms of graphical quality. But does the gameplay stack up? “Forza... Lindsay Lohan’s lawyers are reportedly preparing to file a lawsuit against Rockstar Games for the unauthorized use of the bad girl celeb’s likeness in Grand Theft Auto V, according to TMZ. The allegations seem to stem from three specific, unrelated elements in the game: a bikini-clad woman holding a cellphone on the game’s cover; a random event mission in which you help Los Santos celebutard Lacey Jonas get back home while... Head-to-head with Gran Turismo 6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi

Sony’s much-anticipated PlayStation 4 is now in stores, but for car enthusiasts the big day is December 6th. That’s when Gran Turismo 6 goes on sale for the PlayStation 3 for $59.95. With updated graphics, a feature that lets you design tracks using real roads via GPS, and nearly 1,200 cars including the Lunar Roving Vehicle, it is by far the most ambitious version yet in the 15-year history of the franchise.
