Deadly storm and tidal surge batter northern Europe

urricane-force winds and tidal surges have killed at least seven people in northern Europe, flooded parts of Hamburg and left thousands of homes without electricity. BP gets UK government support over US contracts ban

The UK government has intervened in support of BP over a US ban on the oil major seeking federal contracts. In a court filing lodged as part of BP's appeal against the ban, the document says the move could be "excessive" and "destabilising". China space: 'Jade Rabbit' lunar mission blasts off

China has launched its first lunar rover mission, the next key step in the Asian superpower's ambitious space programme. State Department: North Korea confirms detention of American

North Korea has confirmed to Swedish diplomats that it is holding an American citizen, the U.S. State Department said Friday.
