Born in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, this anthology shares stories about what it takes to beat the odds. More than 100 writers contributed these essays, fiction and poetry to raise money for disaster relief efforts in the region. Featuring writing from Orson Scott Card, Wil Wheaton, and Robin Lee Hatcher. At times tear-jerking, at times humorous, this book is guaranteed to inspire and remind readers that the human spirit knows no boundaries.
Cry # 3
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I can’t even link all the reviews and media mentions of the book here if I wanted to– they’re all over! I haven’t even had time to gather them all up and sort them out yet. We’re getting mentions in newspapers across the US, the UK, and Canada so far, our authors are participating in numerous radio and TV shows, we’re getting great word-of-mouth from the blogosphere… it’s overwhelming and a bit surreal. I counted the number of times I cried on the day of this book’s release: twice. Once when I read an essay about this project from one of the writers, Frank Baron, and once when I saw that we had already surpassed $500 in donations in less than a day. So today makes three cries. This was the review that did it… “Dedicated to ‘the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and all those who are helping them,’ Stories of Strength represents a highlight in the history not only of print-on-demand publishing, but of the entire book publishing industry…” I’ll share more of our reviews and articles about this project soon! -- Jenna Glatzer | There is 1 comment on this entry $2000 and Growing!

Who deserves kisses? Well, lots of people, really. There are so many people right now who believe in what we’re doing and are working hard to let the world know about Stories of Strength. I’d like to tell you about a few of them… To these fine people and many others, we love you! Keep watching… our flight is just beginning. Stories of Strength writers are taking over the airwaves across the U.S. and Canada! -- Jenna Glatzer | There are 4 comments on this entry 3 days, $1000.
Well, we smashed right through my first goal– I was hoping to raise $1000 in the first three days, and we beat it! We’ve raised about $1040 thus far, and I know we’ve barely begun. It feels pretty amazing. Every time I hear of a celebrity donating a million bucks to disaster relief, I think, “Boy, I wish I could do that.” Okay, so a thousand bucks isn’t a million– but it’s something. Something more than I could have done on my own. And who knows how far we’ll go? Who knows how much we can accomplish? We can help medical clinics, rebuild schools, deliver clothes and toys… just because we’re all pitching in and using our love for writing to do something good. Thank you to all the bloggers and Website editors who are helping us spread the word! -- Jenna Glatzer | There are 5 comments on this entry We Rock!
Well, the “net-sneeze” Richard referred to was pretty bad timing– my cable went out just before the book’s official release, so I didn’t get to see the “grand opening”– but right now it’s 9:36 on the night of the release… and we’ve already sold 101 books and raised more than $500 for disaster relief. In less than one day. I can’t tell you how excited all of the other writers and I are about this. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Please help us keep the donations flying in. Put up a flyer or two around the office, link to us from your website or blog, tell people about our project. Our goal is $100,000. Bookmark this site and see how long it takes for us to beat it! -- Jenna Glatzer | There are 19 comments on this entry
